***I was granted permission by Macmillan Books to read the first chapter in advance in exchange for an honest review. I read chapters 2-5 with the chapter sampler released on #CyborgMonday. The rest of the review will come with reading the full novel upon publication.***

Pub date: 4 February 2014
Publisher:Feiwel & Friends a Macmillan Imprint
Genre: Young Adult Fiction
Format: eARC via Netgalley, chapter sampler e-book
Status: Book three of The Lunar Chronicles

Rapunzel’s tower is a satellite. She can’t let down her hair—or her guard.

In this third book in the bestselling Lunar Chronicles series, Cinder and Captain Thorne are fugitives on the run, with Scarlet and Wolf in tow. Together, they’re plotting to overthrow Queen Levana and her army.

Their best hope lies with Cress, who has been trapped on a satellite since childhood with only her netscreens as company. All that screen time has made Cress an excellent hacker—unfortunately, she’s just received orders from Levana to track down Cinder and her handsome accomplice.

When a daring rescue goes awry, the group is separated. Cress finally has her freedom, but it comes at a high price. Meanwhile, Queen Levana will let nothing stop her marriage to Emperor Kai. Cress, Scarlet, and Cinder may not have signed up to save the world, but they may be the only ones who can.

My thoughts:

Oh. Wow. This chapter opener was amazing. I’m hooked already. I can’t wait. Cress seems to be an interesting new character. She does seem a bit childish, but that’s to be expected after being kept in solitary confinement for a large portion of her life.

Just before I started the first chapter from Netgalley, I saw that Marissa released chapters 1-5 on Cyber Monday, renamed “Cyborg Monday.” I jumped on it. So it’s still a month and a half from the release date and I have probably have 0% chance of scoring an ARC, I decided to torture myself a bit more.

Chapter one ends on a cliffhanger AND chapter five does as well. Marissa is incredible with weaving multiple story lines between chapters and showcases how they overlap. I am so excited to see where this book goes. Marissa is amazing taking the fairy tales and reinventing them. Especially since it’s making me fall in love with fairy tales I have never enjoyed. Bring it Cress, I’m ready for your amazingness!
