Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

By: JK Rowling, John Tiffany, & Jack Thorne

Coming: 31 July 2016

Publisher: Little Brown UK

Summary:

Based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, a new play by Jack Thorne, is the first official Harry Potter story to be presented on stage. It will receive its world premiere in London’s West End on 30th July 2016

It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband, and father of three school-age children.

While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes darkness comes from unexpected places.

Why I’m excited:

Really? It’s Harry Potter. I don’t need any other reason to be excited! I’m absolutely giddy for more Harry Potter.

Why I need you to be excited:

See above. Nuff said.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Original Screenplay

By: JK Rowling

Summary:

J.K. Rowling’s screenwriting debut is captured in this exciting hardcover edition of the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them screenplay.

When Magizoologist Newt Scamander arrives in New York, he intends his stay to be just a brief stopover. However, when his magical case is misplaced and some of Newt’s fantastic beasts escape, it spells trouble for everyone…

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them marks the screenwriting debut of J.K. Rowling, author of the beloved and internationally bestselling Harry Potter books. Featuring a cast of remarkable characters, this is epic, adventure-packed storytelling at its very best.

Whether an existing fan or new to the wizarding world, this is a perfect addition to any reader’s bookshelf.

Why I’m excited:

While not strictly Harry Potter, but years earlier in the same universe, it’s more of JK Rowling’s wizarding world! I am super excited to see how magical creatures are brought to life. I think Eddie Redmayne is going to be brilliant.

Why I need you to be excited:

It’s more JK Rowling. You should want to read it on that principal!

Scarlet Witch: Witches’ Road Vol 1

By: James Robinson

Coming: 19 July

Publisher: Marvel

Summary:

Witchcraft is broken – and the SCARLET WITCH is on a journey across the globe to fix it. From the back alleys of Manhattan, to the serene Greek Isles, to the bustling streets of Hong Kong, Wanda will have to face down her foes and find out who her true friends are. But as Wanda solves magical crimes and pieces witchcraft back together, the most important question remains: Who is the mastermind that broke it in the first place? COLLECTING: SCARLET WITCH 1-6, UNCANNY AVENGERS ANNUAL 1

Why I’m excited:

I’ve recently gotten into the comics behind the movies. I liked Scarlet Witch in Avengers: Age of Ultron, but I really liked her in Captain America: Civil War. I stocked up on comics on Free Comic Book Day, so I started looking into other comics and I found that Scarlet Witch has a new series starting. It’s already out on kindle, but I this is the first few comics in the new series bound in a physical copy.

Why I need you to be excited:

Scarlet Witch was a fascinating secondary character in both Ultron and Civil War. I think this would be a nice break from novels and give you a quick read. (Great if you’re behind on your Goodreads challenge like me!)

Life Debt (Star Wars: Aftermath #2)

By: Chuck Wendig

Coming: 12 July 2016

Publisher: Del Rey

Summary:

Set between the events of “Return of the Jedi” and “The Force Awakens, “the never-before-told story that began with “Star Wars: Aftermath” continues in this thrilling novel, the second book of Chuck Wendig s “New York Times” bestselling trilogy.
“It is a dark time for the Empire. . . .”
The Emperor is dead, and the remnants of his former Empire are in retreat. As the New Republic fights to restore a lasting peace to the galaxy, some dare to imagine new beginnings and new destinies. For Han Solo, that means settling his last outstanding debt, by helping Chewbacca liberate the Wookiee s homeworld of Kashyyyk.
Meanwhile, Norra Wexley and her band of Imperial hunters pursue Grand Admiral Rae Sloane and the Empire s remaining leadership across the galaxy. Even as more and more officers are brought to justice, Sloane continues to elude the New Republic, and Norra fears Sloane may be searching for a means to save the crumbling Empire from oblivion. But the hunt for Sloane is cut short when Norra receives an urgent request from Princess Leia Organa. The attempt to liberate Kashyyyk has carried Han Solo, Chewbacca, and a band of smugglers into an ambush resulting in Chewie s capture and Han s disappearance.
Breaking away from their official mission and racing toward the “Millennium Falcon” s last known location, Norra and her crew prepare for any challenge that stands between them and their missing comrades. But they can t anticipate the true depth of the danger that awaits them or the ruthlessness of the enemy drawing them into his crosshairs.
Praise for Chuck Wendig s “Aftermath”
“Star Wars: Aftermath “[reveals] what happened “after” the events of 1983 s “Return of the Jedi.” It turns out, there s more than just the Empire for the good guys to worry about. “The Hollywood Reporter”
The Force is strong with “Star Wars: Aftermath.” ” Alternative Nation”
“”
The “Star Wars” universe is fresh and new again, and just as rich and mysterious as it always was. “Den of Geek””

Why I’m excited:

In all honesty, I’ve been on a big Star Wars kick since Episode VII was announced. I get geeky and all excited over Star Wars books. They’ve been my book drug of choice since high school. I’m pretty sure I read every one that my library had at the time. Some of them more than once. I was in London in 1999 and we had some time to kill in the train station. We ducked into a bookstore. I picked up a Star Wars book. I’m in Europe and I buy a book. Yep. I’m really excited to read the new canon books. I adored the original expanded universe and I’m really excited to delve into the new one. I still need to read the first book of these, but I know I’ll get to it soon.

Why I need you to be excited:

Star Wars. Nuff said.

This Savage Song (Monsters of Verity #1)

By: Victoria Schwab

Coming: 5 July 2016

Publisher: Greenwillow Books

Summary:
There’s no such thing as safe in a city at war, a city overrun with monsters. In this dark urban fantasy from author Victoria Schwab, a young woman and a young man must choose whether to become heroes or villains—and friends or enemies—with the future of their home at stake. The first of two books.

Kate Harker and August Flynn are the heirs to a divided city—a city where the violence has begun to breed actual monsters. All Kate wants is to be as ruthless as her father, who lets the monsters roam free and makes the humans pay for his protection. All August wants is to be human, as good-hearted as his own father, to play a bigger role in protecting the innocent—but he’s one of the monsters. One who can steal a soul with a simple strain of music. When the chance arises to keep an eye on Kate, who’s just been kicked out of her sixth boarding school and returned home, August jumps at it. But Kate discovers August’s secret, and after a failed assassination attempt the pair must flee for their lives.

Why I’m excited:

Victoria Schwab has secured her place on my automatic preorder/buy list, so it’s not surprising to find This Savage Song on my Waiting on Wednesday list. I’ve been intrigued by this book since Victoria started tweeting about her mysterious monster book. I’m always a glutton for a good fantasy, and it definitely sounds like This Savage Song will not disappoint!

Why I need you to be excited:

Victoria Schwab has proven time and again that she is a fantastic wordsmith. I’m super excited at the dawning of a new series by her and I think you should be too! I think this will be a very interesting book considering the world we live in where tragedies seem to be becoming a daily occurrence and it really feels like there are monsters all around us.
